PROMISE FAQ

Why should I meet with staff in the Office of Academic Support?
The Office of Academic Support manages the summer grant for new students, coordinates the peer coach program, enforces program requirements including tracking academic event participation and mandatory advisor meetings, and facilitates additional enrichment activities. If you have questions about any of these services, you should meet with OAS.

Why should I meet with a PCAL academic advisor?
If you have questions about majors or minors, degree requirements, course planning, academic holds, UF academic policies, you’ll want to meet with a PCAL advisor.

How do I make an appointment with a College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) PCAL advisor?
You can access each team member’s calendars by using the “connect with an advisor” link off of the Academic Advising Center’s homepage.

If I have questions about programs (a.k.a. majors, minors, certificates) in other colleges besides CLAS, whom should I contact?
The Promise Canvas site should have an updated list of PCAL advisors across campus with their contact information. Otherwise, you can find academic advisor contact information for all colleges off this website.

Where should I go if I have questions about my financial aid or scholarships after the first summer?
UF’s Office of Admissions, Registrar and Financial Affairs have come together into one unit called One Stop. Students with questions about their money or with any kind of “past due debt” hold should meet with a member of that office.

What opportunities for extra-curricular experiences does CLAS have to offer?
CLAS majors are encouraged to visit their respective department websites to seek out information on academic student organizations, on opportunities to engage with research, and on potential internships specific to those fields. Additionally, the CLAS Beyond120 program also coordinates academic enhancement services such as study abroad, involvement with research and additional experiential learning.

CLAS students can also apply to join the CLAS Student Council, CLAS Ambassadors, and apply to become a CLAS Scholar.

I am Pre-med, where can I find more information on Pre-med and Pre Health advising.
Information on advising services, prerequisites, planning, involvement and academic timelines can be found on our Pre-Health website.
